With a population of more than a billion, consumption of petrol(gas)by Indians have a big impact on Indian budget. A good portion of Indian tax money is spent in the Gulf countries for oil. While a major portion of Indian farmers are living a day at a time.

During my last visit to Bangalore in 2006, I was in a small out door vegetable market outside Bangalore city limits. A lady in her early 30s, selling vegetables along with many like her. All that she wanted for a bunch of carrots was one Rupee. We all know what a rupee is worth in present India. Her plight is close to the reality of 1 in 700 million Indian population.

India as a nation can not ignore her farmers, nor can she ignore the momentum of her growing middle class.  Though there may not be one solution for all her problems in an instant, there are options that India can choose for a better future.

Sugar cane and Corn cultivation is one such option that will definitely benefit farmers, if India starts using alternative energy "Ethanol" for powering the engines. It may be expensive to begin with. However, the benefit lies in the future. It is safer than nuclear power. It can power the growing automobile population. It may even create a new arena for energy industries. India can create more employment opportunity.

Lesser energy dependency, hopeful farmers, cleaner environment and a middle class who will still get their share of budget.

Hope is beautiful !
