As on many occasions dad, mom, brother and I went out to Indiranagar in Bangalore for a little shopping and dining.
Just when we started our shopping, we heard a voice from behind.
"Hello Ravi...."
That was Chandrashekaran uncle, my dad's colleague. He looked younger than my dad. I was not sure if it was the dye or he is just younger. I have heard about him before.
"Hello Chandrashekaran, how are you? "
"I am fine, what are you doing here"
"Well, we often come here for our shopping ....Arun, Anil come here. My sons Arun, Anil and that is my wife."
My brother and I smiled back and said "Hello uncle".
Just then my mom said " Namaskaram".
She stood beside my dad. I could see the tinge of disappointment on my moms face as if we were running late. However, she made herself look pleasant.
Just then a lady looking older than the uncle walked towards us.
My dad goes
"Hello...." turned towards the uncle and "Is this your mom?"
She did look older than the uncle, however, not that old. A single moment of silence felt like eternity. I could see the look on the lady's and uncle's face changing from happiness to disappointment.
He uttered "No.....she is my wife".
I could feel my skin crawl. My mom turned around and continued her shopping as if nothing happened. My brother and I turned around and left my dad to defend himself. My mom was mad at dad. We felt so bad for that auntie.
We came home and did not talk about it at for a long time. Then my dad had to break the ice. " It is all his fault, he dyed his hair and is looking younger than his wife".
We all learned our lessons.
One more tip:-- Never ask some one if she is pregnant unless she tells you.
